Review on Mock Teaching.

Picture will all my friends & Best Lecturer ever (Spot the lady in middle)

A little review on all the mock teachings I've experienced during Pedagogy Class. Being able to attend and given the opportunity to attend your lessons are the best thing! Here's some honest review and feedback from me to you. :)

1. Ashwini (THE PRETTY TEACHER)😗
Hey pretty teacher-to-be! Despite of you being the first person to do your mock teaching, I think you did pretty well. Your lesson was clear, information was sufficient and you  managed your time well. Slides were good too. I like how you use the traffic light method to control the class and that you are patience enough to your students. Just one thing for you. I wished you will look more into the activities in class to engage with your students and I think it would be great if you can add in a more creative approach during your introduction to hook your students to your lesson. :)

2. Asrianins (THE SHY TEACHER)🙈
Prepositionss.. I remember your topic. Your lesson was really fun especially where you include a mini game to guess the prepositions during your lesson. I love the mini game so much as it able to attract us and in the same time help us to remember better. Your teaching approach were simple and clear. I think you did okay but just a little reminder to you. When planning your lesson, try not to include too much information in a limited time. And do not be afraid or feel shy to teach because you are the teacher, my friend :)

3. Aziee (THE LOVING  TEACHER)😍
Hi teacher Azie. I like your enthusiasm in teaching and the energy you have! You go girl! I enjoyed your lesson so much because I feel self-belonging and  cared for during class. You showed kindness and you are very polite to your students. I love how you included the "Kahoot" game during your lesson which I think is a good activity to make the lesson interesting. The "Kahoot" is a good approach but I think sometimes it's not a good choice too due to the low internet connection. The exercise that you gave also involve drawing which is think is a little not appropriate for Secondary school students. In all, I love your class and I am sure you will be a good teacher in the future! :)

4.Yue Ling (THE STRICT TEACHER)😟
Teacher Ling.. Hmm.. My first impression on you is you are very strict. I'm afraid of you during your class. Yes, sometimes it's good to be strict as you are able to control the students but not too strict because students will not like it. Sorry. Overall, I can say that your mock teaching was a great success! I was thinking to pick you as the best mock teaching. But, Jeremy won by 10%. I love how you are able to attract my interest to your lesson when you started your lesson with The Circle Song. The video you showed is also good, where clarity and simplicity is there. I salute you for dancing to the circle formulas song which I think it's a good approach to help students to remember the formulas, The song is kinda addictive too which is good.

5. Jeremy (THE BEST TEACHER)👍
*refer to the previous post
I reviewed you already.

6. Mimi (THE CUTE TEACHER)😊
Hi cutee pie! You look so cute. Couldn't imagine how will you look like when you really became a teacher! Awww.. How cute and adorable! Your lesson were straight forward and is understandable. I love how you explain the slides with confidence and clear. Your teaching approach is quite simple and I think it would be great if you can look into some creative activities to be done during your teaching to make your lesson interesting and livelier. One more thing to add on, your exercise is little too heavy for Form 1 students maybe an appropriate amount is sufficient enough to lead to the effective learning.

7. Priscilla (THE ENERGETIC TEACHER)😜
Hi! Your lesson was great! Slides were clear, simple and nice! I love your confidence when you teach and your voice projection was loud and clear. The "Simon Say" game is a very creative and effective approach used during your teaching, There's also engagement between you and your students and it's good to see that you involve your students into active participation. It will be great if you use a better way to answer your students during Q&A session and to accept their questions wholeheartedly. Overall, I enjoyed your class. :)

8. Alessandra (THE NERVOUS TEACHER)😐
Hi teacher! Your class was okay. Love how you are able to control your class and your attentiveness while you are teaching. I was a little restless during your class and I realise you called my name asking questions (I think about 3 times) to check on me making sure I'm paying attention. That was a good move. I wish you could look into better approach in teaching especially teaching Maths because it is quite a heavy subject. Not to include too many concepts at a time especially for Maths. You also seem a little nervous and unsure of what you are teaching. Try not to show your nervousness and be confident even though you are not! Hope to see you teaching next time :)

9. Fizyy (THE COOL TEACHER)😆
Hi korean teacher! I love seeing your slides. I anticipate which artist image will you be putting next in your slides. It's interesting to see how you insert the images in your presentation to make your lesson interesting. Usage of Kahoot is also good. You're a funny teacher too where you are able to take in jokes from your students and laugh together. I wished you can speak a little louder when you teach and not going too fast when explaining your lesson.

10. Mogannah (THE CONFIDENT TEACHER)😀
Sexy teacher in Red Saree! I was immersed by your teaching in class. I love your confidence, your clear voice projection and how well you are able to manage your class without being strict. It's interesting that you are able to relate the questions to PT3 questions and you explaining on steps in solving the questions one by one. Your explanation was clear and easily understandable. Although your slides is very simple and plain, your explanation had covered it up for you which leads to effective teaching. A simple reminder to you: Not to be too confident with your answer and try to accept questions and answers from your students. Overall, I love your lesson because everything was so goo that I was about to nominate you for the Best Mock Teaching.

11.Malar (THE OKAY TEACHER)😌
Your class was okay. Slides were good, clear explanation.Direct teaching. I wish you had given the students a list of formulas for calculating the areas first before the Quiz time in Kahoot. This will be better way for effective pedagogical teaching and learning. Time management is also important so remember to plan your lesson before hand so that you are able to achieve the learning outcome and that other lessons will not be interrupted.

12. Vetha (THE FUN TEACHER)😁
I love your lesson. Your content was sufficient and appropriate to your learning objective and outcome.  I really like the all the activities that you plan during your lesson. Especially the one describing the 4 Popular Hollywood Artist. It really attracts me a lot and I enjoyed the session so much. I can see that you really put effort in providing colour paper, manila card and even printing a full A4 size image! As mentioned by Dr Ng, although your activities are simple, you are able to achieve your learning objectives and outcome. I wish you can have a deeper and clearer explanation in your class so that students can understand better. Your explanation was a little short and quick.

13. Vimel (THE SCARY TEACHER)😔
1,2,3 Action! Wow! I'm really impressed by you during your mock teaching! It's an interesting role you play with which is different from the others. You are so into your character that even when I try to joke around in your class, you prohibited me from doing so. (a little hurt tho) I fascinated to see how you are so into your character and being serious in class. You are able to control your class so well that all students listened to you. Your activity was also great as you are able to involve all students into your activity. Being too strict has its benefits but I think it would be better if you could put down your character a little, not much then everything would be perfect. :)

I'm finally done with the reviewing. Thank you all for taking time reading my comments and honest review. I hope that no one is disheartened by my post for I am just trying to give you all a feedback with the hope that you are able to accept it and take it as a process of becoming better. Even I myself have flaws and mistakes during my mock teaching. Duhhhh. No one is perfect and REMEMBER, mistakes leads to success!

A random photo of us on our trip to Malacca. :)

That's all from me for now! Good night! :)

Your friend,

8th Reflection: BEST MOCK TEACHING

Hi there! I'm back again with my 8th reflection for pedagogy class. Well, as off today, each and everyone one of us in the class, all 13 of us have successfully completed our mock teaching! Oh yeaa..

I am here to pick and review the BEST MOCK TEACHING for our class. Which one will I pick? To pick one from all 12 of them is not an easy thing to do because I enjoyed their mock teaching.

Here are some of the those people's mock teaching which I enjoyed the most.

Whom will it be? Is it Jeremy's? Or Yue Ling's? Mimi's? Mogannah's? Will Vetha's mock teaching be the one? Or shall I say, Vimel's? Ashwini's? Or Priscilla's?

In my opinion, from all the mock teaching sessions I have seen and experienced myself, the ones I remembered best belong to JEREMY! For those whom I did not mentioned, do not be disheartened for I have limited choices and trust me, you guys did a great job. :)

Teacher Jemjem explaining to us of the question given

Teacher JemJem explaining about trigo using acronyms (Interesting Story)

Jeremy Lau (Trigonometry)

Reasons His Mock Teaching Is the BEST!

1. I love the smile he brings to the class first thing when he entered the class. This makes me as a student feel like the teacher is happy to teach us. He lights the class with his never-ending S.M.I.L.E!

2. Next, I like that he is able to manage the lesson well as he start the lesson. I am impressed on how he managed to hook me to the lesson by starting with a creative approach I say: STORY time. He is able to explain the complicated formulas in trigonometry in a simple way of remembering it which I think will be a great help to all the students. His confidence, clear voice projection when teaching the subject matter shows that he mastered the topic before hand.

3. Besides, he is also good in managing his students as he ensures all students are listening to his lesson by asking  us whether we understands what he taught and to repeat the formulas. He is also able to control noise in the classroom where he ensures all students focuses on the lesson for effective teaching and learning to occur.

4. In addition, I like that he uses various interesting teaching approach in his lessons.

He uses known SUPERHEROS: BATMAN & SUPERMAN to name the groups when he did an activity in the class which I think is a good approach to attract student's interest and attention.

The BEST PART of his mock teaching is when he is able to trigger my attention and interest during the exercise time. Even though it only consists of just 3 questions, remember, it's the quality that matters not the quality! The questions are in real-life experience situation and localized where we are to solve questions on MARS airplane taking off, nasi lemak and the on going trending Beauty&theBeast! (i love this show so much). All the questions are also high thinking order questions where we are to think critically and that's a good example of questions that will be asked in PT3.

To add on, he even uses different accent when explaining all 3 questions which is relates to the problem solving question which is British Accent in solving trigonometry for Beauty&the Beast, Malaysian Accent in MARS airplane and Indian Accent for nasi lemak question making the class lively and causing lighthearted laughter and amusement.

5.The content lesson is also sufficient where I think he provides good explanation and relevant examples during the whole lesson. He repeatedly emphasize on the acronyms
Can Anyone Help?               Cos=Adjacent/Hypotenuse
Sell Our House                     Sin=Opposite/Hypotenuse
Try Once Again                    Tan=Opposite/Again
again, and again and again during the whole lesson until I can still now remember it till today! (passed 1 week already. Look at the effect)

6. As a perfect addition, I think his PowerPoint Presentation Slides are the best! His slides are simple ,nice and presented so well. The font he used is large enough to be clearly seen with animation that matches the lesson. Images used are also clear from my view and are attractive as he includes real life images to make the presentation interesting.

7. Furthermore, he also displays good personality as a teacher. He shows good attitude during the lesson and talk politely in the class. Despite us asking him some nonsensical questions in class (to irritate him), he answers all our questions politely. He also shows good values as he praise the students for being able to questions given.

8. Last but not least, the flow of the lesson is smooth and everything went in order I say. Even though he did not really control us well during group activity and did over take some time, his teaching approach and activities did achieve the learning objective which I think is good.

Guess that's all from me for now!

P/s: To all my classmates friends, do view the next blog because I had review all of your mock teachings there. Wanted to review it here but the blog post is too long already.

Sending virtual hugs to you friends,

7th Reflection: My Mock Teaching

Hi there! I guessed from the title of the blog, you already know what am I going to write about today. Basically, it's about my mock teaching reflection. Time passes by and without realising it, it's my turn already.

To be honest, I was really nervous knowing that I will have to conduct a class, not mentioning teaching non-other than my own coursemates and also being evaluated.

How it went in general?

I started off the class with a mini-game to attract my students to the topic.  It's a simple but great idea to hook my students' attention to the class and also to introduce the topic of the day to the class.
Moving on, I introduce the topic for the day: POLYGONS and started off introducing concepts of polygons. I strongly believe that there's no way a student can learn with just merely sitting down, warming their seats, listening to the teacher. Thus, my teaching styles emphasise on interaction with students and active participation of students during my lessons. Overall, everything was good and went according to my plan except for some mistakes I did on my presentation slides.

What I would do differently.
Asking me what I would do differently is definitely amending my slides. I feel that my presentation slides are not really attractive even though  I've already spent lots of time editing and fixing it. I was also little nervous when things don't go smoothly with the first introduction part (mini game) where I couldn't replay the countdown timer video. Luckily, I was able to change the activity by counting down 5 seconds myself. I also wish to have group activities in the class to instil cooperative learning within students and also hope to strengthen their friendships.

What went wrong?
As from the comments of my lecturer, it would be good that I reveal the correct answers for the worksheet one by one when discussing with the students. This to allow students to attempt to answer first before revealing the correct answer. It was my original plan, but, I couldn't because when I inserted the animation to the particularly highlighted answer, all the words are animated together ( which I don't know why). I've tried to explore ways to do so, but I couldn't find it. Thus, I leave it as it is and plans to discuss the answers with the students together.
The second thing that went wrong is when I told my students that I mistakenly type the wrong answers for the Q&A session during activity (NAME THE POLYGONS). I should have told them that I purposely name the polygon wrongly to test the students and to check whether they are really paying attention to my class,
Others went well and I enjoyed teaching them.

What I liked about the lesson.
Practically, I love the lesson (of course)  because this is my first mock teaching class ever. Yes, I did teach before in tuition class but not with various teaching techniques and fun activities. I love to see how my students (my friends) enjoyed and participate actively in class engaging to my lesson at the same time supporting me.

If the activities and class dynamics reflected my teaching principles
Yes! The activities and class dynamics do actually reflect my teaching principles. My teaching principle is simple: ENGAGEMENT WITH STUDENTS, ACTIVE PARTICIPATION FROM STUDENTS & INTERACTION BETWEEN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS. I strongly believe that learning is best achieved through experience and engagement in class. My whole lesson focuses more on activities rather than teaching where it allows students to learn independently through activities after getting the gist of the lesson from the teacher. I can say that 75% of my lesson time involves participation from my students. GUESS ME, SCAN ME and NAME ME are activities that are created especially for my students to explore and to apply what they have learnt in class so that they will be able to remember what is taught and to have a better understanding of the topic: POLYGONS.
Students required to scan QR code and guess whether the shape fulfill the properties of a polygon or not.
Students required to stick CUE CARD on the screen deciding whether its a regular or irregular polygon and answer will be revealed by removing the cue card.
Students required to name the polygon seen in real life images.

What I learnt in the process
Definitely, I have learnt a lot through this process. I have learnt to think critically where I have to squeeze my brain to think of creative ways to deliver my lesson. I have also grown maturely where I have to put students' needs and student' interest first when planning my lesson plan. Besides, I have also learnt the proper way to design a lesson from scratch and trust me, it's not easy. Not to say it's difficult, but everything is worth the when you see the smile from your students when they enjoy your lesson and learn something from you.

Thank you for the feedback :)

I guessed that's all from me for now. It's been a long-winded blog post already. I'll see you guys in the next post okay?

6th Reflection: Preparation for Mock Teaching

Hi there! I'm back again.

Got to say this week got to be the "RESTING WEEK" for me as I slow down going back to reality. You ask WHY? Last week, I can say was the busiest week for me as I've been travelling much for the short break. Went back Ipoh to attend my church camp from Wednesday&Thursday, came back the next day to attend another camp in Genting! It was indeed very tiring for me and this week is my "REST WEEK".

First experience Bubble Futsal with my love. <3

Jungle trekking! I almost GIVE UP, but I PERSEVERE!

Amazing Race with these awesome people in Genting~

So, let's get back to the topic shall we? This week was called off due to some unavoidable reasons. To be honest, who will not be happy when you heard news of class being cancel? *evil laugh
But to my amaze, our lecturer is indeed one of a kind, despite having MC still tries her best to conduct the class. I salute her for her enthusiasm.

So, we had online class for our lesson and the below photo show how our online class in conducted. The topic for the day is "CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT". We start off by sharing our views on Class Teachers and Subject Teacher. It is clear that all of know what are the difference between them. I summarise the whole lesson as below:
1. CT vs ST
2. Things CT does but ST don't
3. Aspect to look on CT
4. Read 3 articles upload in UNIEC

Conclusion, our lecturer told us that when explaining on CM, clarify which role is it from CM. This is because most assume ST role, many thought CM as in managing teaching in subject.
BUT, the reality is CM is MORE THAN just managing teaching in subject.

CM=Classroom Management
CT=Classroom Teacher
ST=Subject Teacher
How the online class looks like :)
R6: PREPARATION FOR MOCK TEACHING

To honest, I'm not fully prepared and definitely not looking forward to it. Since my turn is the following week, so I'm actually procrastinating. But then, at the end of the day, I will still have to face it.

For now, I've already decided which class am I going to teach and the topic. It took me a while to pick and to decide which topic because I choose my favourite topic. To understand the subtopic I;m going to teach is also easy because I've already master the particular area. I've also done with power point presentation (I guess). It took me 5 hours just to complete the power point. I'm really bad in designing a power point presentation. I'm half way through my lesson planning and I also have incorporated some fun activities to make my class interesting. Do look forward to my mock teaching as I bring you to an unforgettable learning experience with Teacher Jen. (jokes)

I'm going to continue with my lesson plan and I hope to complete it as soon as possible so that my lecturer can get  glimpse on what I'm planning to do and also for me to repair where is necessary.

I guess, that's all for now.

p/s: GOOD LUCK TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO'RE DOING THEIR MOCK TEACHING NEXT TUESDAY!
Looking forward to attend your class :)

5th Reflection: Good PPt

Hi there!

It's me again, back to  my 5th reflection of my class.

The class started with the topic "Music". Music is an element that can help in effective teaching and learning. Music are able to create interest in student and also can be used as a good teaching tool. An example is when we are giving exercise in class, instead of mentioning "Time's Up" we can use music as a time keeper as to tell students that they have to finish it before the music ends.

We also learn on Learning Objective and Learning Outcome. I've learn that  learning outcome is more than learning objective because learning outcome is the specific skills that are required to be achieved by the end of the lesson and are based on learning objectives. Learning Outcome also is in verb form to show learning process occurring.

Besides that, Dr also explained what makes a good presentation and also show us some slides in class and together we amend the slides together. So what makes a good power point presentation?
1. Use a clear background (white is suggested)
This is to provide more space for the presentation and to make the slides look clear.
2. Include some related pictures and animation in slides
To attract students to the lesson
3.  Use bigger fonts and colors
To stress on important points and to make the slides more attractive

Next, our task for this week.

CHOOSE ONE SET OF POWERPOINT FROM INTERNET, THEN FIX IT.
IF YOU THINK THE PPT DO NOT NEED TO BE FIX, EXPLAIN WHY. GIVE 4 REASONS.

The title of this blog is 12 Simple Health Tips Everyone Should Know.
Obtained from :
https://www.slideshare.net/stevescottsite/simple-health-tips-everyone-should-know/8-3Add_garlic_to_your_diet

Reasons why I think this slide is good.

 1. The title is CLEAR, CONCISE & ATTRACTIVE
The title is specific and is understandable. Usage of different font in the title also makes the more attractive.

2. Simple usage of language
Jargons (bombastic words)  are not used through out the slides. This makes the slides easily understood and it also ensure effective delivery.

3.Suitable image
Relevant and clear image related to the points stated are used. This helps to stress on the message and also gives better understanding. Besides, enlarging the image making it as a background image also adds stress to the points and provide a clear point other than making the slides colorful and attractive.

4. Short and easily understandable sentence
Instead of writing long sentences and being long winded, short sentence are used. This makes the presentation simple and short. Despite being short and simple, sufficient information are included in the slides making it a good presentation.

I guessed that's all from me for now.

Thank you for dropping by and do comment in the comment box below to share any views.

Till then,

Reflection 4: Jen's Template of Lesson Plan

Hi there! Yea, its me again. Just to start off today's post, here's a photo of my friends and me being silly! Today's post is basically on my 4th class reflection on Pedagogy. WOW! Times flies!

Well, today's class is about lesson plan. We are exposed to what a lesson plan is and I came to realise that being a teacher is not as easy as I think it would be. From my understanding, a lesson plan is a very important thing as it is the skeleton of the whole lesson. A good designed lesson plan determines the effectiveness of teaching and learning in class (mostly). Lesson plan are different for all as to cater to different types of students and there is no fixed template to design a lesson plan. A lesson plan must be specific and must be clearly describe in detail. In order to prepare students for success, lessons must be planned thoroughly and include all components of an essential curriculum.

Our task for the week: BASED ON TOPIC LESSON PLAN, DESIGN YOUR OWN STRUCTURE OF LESSON PLAN

We are to evaluate and analyse 3 samples of lesson plan and share our views regarding it.

Based on those 3, here are some items that I think should be omitted and items to be added.

Remove:
1. Educational Emphasis
I think this item is not a necessity as it is less important and not much information can be obtained from it.
2. Learning Areas
Should be remove because it's not neccesary as it is already included in the topic of the lesson

Add
1.Questions to ask in class
This is to remind the teacher what to ask the students to test their understanding. Sometimes, teachers might forget. Thus, prepare before entering class and include in lesson plans are the best way to keep track
2. Teaching aids/materials
This is to ensure that all materials needed to conduct the class are well prepared and to prevent any items to be forgotten when conducting class. This also to ensure planned activities can be carried out smoothly with the materials

JEN'S TEMPLATE OF LESSON PLAN

Justifications

1.The title format should should be as above
To provide a clear and concise lesson plan written for what subject, what topic and what group of students is that particular lesson plan for
2. Date and time/duration
To know when the class take place and how long the lesson will be
3. Level of Proficiency is optional as some teachers may evaluate wrongly and there are also multiple levels in one class which makes it difficult to mark the class in which level.
To help teacher to set the level of difficulties in teaching. For the beginner stage, teacher may have to include teaching from basic while for expert, teacher can include tougher questions to match the students level of understanding
4. Number of Students is optional but it's better to have
To help the teacher know the exact amount of students during that lesson so as to better prepare and plan any activities that suits the amount of students
5. Background knowledge is also important
For the teachers to design the lesson as to prevent repetition of topic/sub topic in any lesson. Background knowledge means lesson taught in the previous class and not referring to knowledge the student already know
6. Learning Objective is what the teacher hope students will obtain through the lesson. It also describe the goals, aims and intentions of the teacher who teaches the lesson
7. Lesson Outcome is what the student needs to be able to do at the end of the lesson. It also describe or list measurable and essential mastered content-knowledge, reflecting skills, competencies, and knowledge that students have achieved and can demonstrate upon successfully completing a course. An assessable outcome can be displayed or observed and evaluated against criteria through assignments, test or evaluation.
8.Teaching and Learning Approach
To know the methods and pedagogy used to teach students, explain how teachers will get students to achieve the learning objective and outcomes to ensure a effective teaching and learning

It's better to put the detailed description of lesson plan in a table form to make things organised and easily understandable. The activity and duration must be specific to provide a clear understanding. There must be a  + sign beside every duration mentioned to indicate the approximate time allocated for there will be plus minus minutes for each section because sometimes things doesn't goes the way we want. Content column must have to describe in detail the activities that are to be carried out. Set induction is a must as it is the first stage where introduction of the topics happens. Creative activities like simple dance or games can be use to attract the students to the lesson. The development stages should be separated and stately clearly stages by stages to make things more organised and also to make time allocation more specific in order to complete the lesson on time. Both teaching and learning method should also be separated to provide a clear cut of what the teacher and students should do in each activity. Rationale should also be in a lesson plan to provide valid reasons behind each activity and to ensure that the learning objectives and learning outcomes are achieved from the lesson. Teaching aids is important to ensure that all materials needed to conduct the class are well prepared and to prevent any items to be forgotten when conducting class. This also to ensure planned activities can be carried out smoothly with the materials

Follow up activity is also important as it reflects on what activity the teacher plan to do at the end of class to test the students understanding. This also help remind teacher what they have assigned in the previous class. Self-reflection is optional but it's best to have to obtain feedback from students and to self-evaluate themselves. Teacher can also take the opportunity to self-reflect her teaching and if there's any improvement needed. Appendix should be included to show prove of activities/ worksheet/ handouts / notes given out during class. Reference is also optional but then it's still recommended to be put in so that the reliability and  credibility of the lesson can be proved especially when there is inspection.

I think that' all from me now. Do give me some feedback be it positive or negative regarding this template as I am still in the process of learning. All feedbacks are very much appreciated and I believe it will help me to learn more.

As per ritual, I leave you with a qoute.
"If the plan doesn't work, change the plan, NEVER the goal."
Till then,

3rd Reflection

Hi there! Yaa,. It's me again. Are you wating to read my blog post? Are you excited?! Because I am! Hurrayyy!! Let's get started shall we?

To start off, I couldn't manage to attend class on Wednesday, 8th March because I went back to my hometown due to famliy issues. I din't know that our lecturer will postponed our usual class which is on Tuesday to the next day due to some unavoidable reasons. I wouldn't have skipped class but unfortunately I have to go back.

Although I missed class, I still keep up with class by asking my friends what have they learnt that day. I believe that there are no excuses for not keeping up with class saying "I don't know because I din't attend class when the topic was taught". When there's a will, there's a way. Thus, I came to know that they discussed about the article on "NAVIGATING THE BUMPY ROAD TO STUDENTCENTERED INSTRUCTION". It's about the 8 steps students might face in Student Centred Learning and also on 11 problems teacher face with Student Centred Approach. From the additional information our lecturer shared in our student portal, she also mentioned that she shared on the philosophy and the purpose behind the KSSM curriculum, and what are the type of students the curriculum intended to produce.

From the additional post, I learnt a new word which is COMPUTATIONAL THINKING. What is computational thinking? It is a problem solving approach using knowledge we know on computation regardless of subject and age group. A clear example is imagine you're a journalist and you want to know what people think about election.
Option 1: Ask people around street, house by house doing Q&A session with people.
Option 2: Use a computer programme that can analyse social media posts from thousands of websites in just few seconds.
People who use computational thinking will definitely pick Option 2! This a good example to illustrate the benefit of approching a problem computationally.

Here's the task for the week:
Based on the article read, suggest 2 methods to solve any 4 selected issues from the 11 issues faced by teachers when using Student Centred Approach listed in the article.

Issue 1: Losing Control in Class

Solution 1: Do not worry! You are the facilitator and guide!
You have to look at it differently. You are definitely still in control of the class because you are the one who initiate and lead any class activity. You still have to direct and take full charge of the class in order to ensure the class runs smoothly.

Solution 2: Ensure that students are doing the task.
Check on the students from time to time in class to ensure students are participating in class. Guide and correct them if you find there are mistakes.

Issue 2: Students Don't Read Assigned Readings and For Those Who Do Seem Unable to
Understand the Material Independently

Solution 1: Remind Students that You'll Do A Q&A session in the Next Class
Each time when you want to assign students to do early reading before entering class, remind them that there will be Q&A session in the begining of the class to ensure that they read.

Solution 2: Discuss the Article in Class
Detail discussion in class should be held in class after assigining students with the reading to ensure that all students are able to understand what they are reading. This is also to give a clearer and better understanding to students who does not understand the article even after reading it. Discussion in class also helps in making sure that the students truly understand what they have read and to correct them if they did misunderstand any concept.

Issue 3:  "Hitchhike" when Assign Homework, Presentation, or Projects to Groups
This is a normal case even I myself as a student often face it too. Hitchhike is a person who is getting credit for work in which they did not actively participate.

Solution 1: Randomly pick any members to ask questions
During Q&A presentation, pick any student from the group and asked them questions according to the assignment given. This is to ensure that all of them did the assignment together. If he/she can't answer the question, ask the group members to double check.

Solution 2: Let the Students to Grade Each Group Members
Allocate 5% of the assignment grading for each students to evaluvate each members. This is because they are able to give marks that each student deserve for each of them because they know who is putting effort in the completing the assignment. This is also to ensure that each student participate equally because they know their groupmates will evaluvate them.

Issue 4: Many of the Cooperative Teams in Class are Not Working-Well- Assignments are Superficial and Incomplete

Solution 1: Carry Out More Group Activities in Class
Activities like small group presentation, group discussions and should be done in class to make the students have self-belonging to thier team and make them feel more comfortable together as a group. This is also to create a coopertative learning and to make each student used to doing things in a group.

Solution 2: Autonomy in Choosing Group Members
Give students freedom the choose their group members of their own choice. Do not pick and place students in groups according to your preference because they will feel uncomfortable with other people. Allowing students to exercise some control over their own learning will empower them, and that can be extremely motivating, appealing and inspiring for students. As long as assignment or assessment aligns with the lesson objectives and lesson outcome, giving students autonomy to choose can be a win-win for both teacher and student.
