1st Reflection

Hello there! Welcome back. If you have been reading my previous post, you should have known me a little better. Here am I back on blogging about my reflection on my previous Pedagogy.

Well, before I start, here’s a picture of my classmates. It’s a blessing to have come to know them through this class and I can say that they are all active in class.

LET'S GET STARTED, SHALL WE?

Both my friend, YueLing and I are late for class that day as we missed the bus and there’s no Grab car available. If you are curious why I don’t take Uber, Grab is now having a promotion where any rides of RM7 and below will be FREE OF CHARGE. You ask how? Simply apply this code “ZERO FARE”, sit back and enjoy free rides valid till 29.02.2017. Psttt. This blog post is not sponsored!

From what I have learned and discussed in class, I have learned that they are 3 schools of Thought about Learning and Teaching namely The Cognitive School of Thought, The Humanistic School of Thought and The Behavioral School of Thought. Each of the approaches is different from each other. The Cognitive School of Thought focuses on understanding how students acquire knowledge, The Humanistic School of Thought focus on understanding how to develop feelings, attitudes, and values while The Behavioral School of Thought focus on understanding how students behavior are affected by the environment. Is there a single best approach to student learning? For me, it’s a big NO! This is because each one has its own strength and it depends on of the different curriculum focused.

Next, I have also learned the definitions of pedagogy. At first, I was a little confused when I was the article that is given by my lecturer, DR NG. But after she explained and have discussions in class, I am clear pedagogy is actually the instruction or methods used in teaching and learning. We also had a discussion on PEDAGOGY VS DICTATICS where dictatics is also a part of pedagogy and also means the theory of teaching and learning.

What I experience in this class is very different from my usual classes. We have to always be alert in this class as DR NG will suddenly throw questions during the class at any time. I find this teaching technique somehow or rather interesting as it ensures that the teaching and learning process are focussed. We are also able to voice out our opinions and ideas.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?
1. There is no right/ wrong answer as long as we have justification and valid explanation
2. Do not be SHY or hesitate to ask questions as we are all in the process of learning.

I guessed that’s all from me. Until then, take care. Stay tuned for my next blog update. Do let me know what I should write about, any topic and suggestions are always very welcomed.

Before I sign off, let me share with you this movie. Taare Zameen Par: Every Child is Special, an inspiring Hindi film on how a Ram, an art teacher helps Ishaan, an 8-years-old dyslexic child who is both lazy and trouble maker to find his true self in education. The film explores the life of a teacher and an eight-year-old boy with learning disabilities where they share a special bond and together they discover the real problem behind they boy's struggles in school and helps him to overcome his disability. With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself. I am impressed with the special and creative ideas of his to help Ishaan in studying! Trust me, you will be amazed.

    1. Thank you. There are no problems faced in the class as I think that most of us participate actively in class through Q&A session. Active participation helps to develop our critical thinking skills. Although we are encountering with new teaching style which are unfamiliar to us, but I guess we will be alright as times pass. That's my view

    1. Hi. Good day Dr. I think Maslow's Theory is closely related to Humanistic School of Thought where all the needs have to be satisfy by the school. I remember a qoute "The school should fit the children, not the children fit the school". Thus, the school should take in accounts the students need. Thank you.

    2. To add on, not satisfying the students needs will lead to negative effect adnd demotivate them in learning.
